As the soprano voice of the double reed consort, the oboe enjoys a unique position within the woodwind family. Used primarily in orchestral, concert band, chamber ensembles, or as a solo instrument, the oboe's characteristic tone quality originates from its reed construction - dual pieces of cane lashed to a short-tipped, corked bocal that fits directly into the instrument.

Due to the sensitive nature of this type of reed, the oboe is one of the most difficult instruments in which to achieve a pleasing tone quality. As a more complex instrument to master, most band programs do not introduce oboe until the second year of study, and most oboists begin their musical training on either flute, clarinet, or saxophone. Our oboe instructors at Pellegrino Fine Arts Academy understand the complexity of mastering this instrument and possess the knowledge and experience to help all students - beginner through advanced - achieve their musical goals.
