The violin is the highest-pitched member of the orchestral string family and is found in nearly every musical genre. The earliest violins date from the mid-sixteenth century and are descendants of the Renaissance viol da gamba family of stringed instruments. Unlike piano and wind instruments, violins are available in incremental sizes, enabling small children to play an appropriately-sized instrument. Student-size violins range from 1/16, 1/8, 1/4, 1/2, and 3/4 size reproductions of full-sized instruments. Violins are sometimes referred to as "fiddles," the difference between the two being the type of music played - not the type of instrument used. Fiddles and violins are the same instrument!

Unlike piano, in which pitch and tone quality are determined solely by the instrument itself, the violin requires a great amount of skill and training to achieve an in-tune, pleasant sound. Violinists use their left hand to hold the instrument and change pitch while manipulating a bow with the right hand to produce sound. The dexterity required to become a proficient violinist makes this a very challenging instrument! Our violin instructors at Pellegrino Fine Arts Academy are highly-qualified professionals adept at teaching students of all ages and ability levels - beginner through advanced.
