The flute (and piccolo) are the highest-pitched instruments of the woodwind family. Flutes are used in marching band, concert band, chamber ensembles, orchestra, and as a solo instrument. As one of the earliest known musical instruments, flutes have been constructed of many different materials, but modern flutes are manufactured of nickel, silver, or in the case of professional artist flutes, gold or platinum.
While the concept of flute sound production is simple (a stream of air blown across a hole in the head joint), the speed and direction of air stream and lip tension (defined as embouchure) necessary to produce a fluid, clear tone is complex. Our flute instructors at Pellegrino Fine Arts Academy are highly-qualified professionals who are experienced with students of all levels - beginner through advanced.
What are the benefits of flute lessons?
- One-on-one, individualized instruction tailored to meet your specific needs
- Our instructors teach proper embouchure, hand position, posture, and correct bad habits that may impede a student's progress
- Students are introduced to flute literature (etudes, solos, ensembles) written by foremost composers for that instrument
- Our instructors can recommend the right flute to match a student's ability level and explain the differences between beginner, intermediate, and advanced-level instruments
