The bassoon is a woodwind instrument in the double-reed family that typically plays music written in bass and tenor clef, and occasionally, treble clef. Used primarily in orchestra, concert band, chamber ensembles, or as a solo instrument, the bassoon's characteristic tone quality originates from its reed construction - dual pieces of cane lashed together that fit onto a long, narrow bocal that serves as the "neck" of the instrument.
Due to the sensitive nature of this type of reed, as well as the size and expense of this instrument, most band programs do not introduce bassoon until the second year of study, and most bassoonists begin their musical training on either flute, clarinet, or saxophone. Our bassoon instructors at Pellegrino Fine Arts Academy understand the complexity of mastering this instrument and possess the knowledge and experience to help all students - beginner through advanced - achieve their musical goals.
What are the benefits of bassoon lessons?
- One-on-one, individualized instruction tailored to meet your specific needs
- Our instructors teach proper embouchure, hand position, posture, and correct bad habits that may impede a student's progress
- Students learn reed-working skills that will prolong reed life and improve intonation and tone quality
- Students are introduced to bassoon literature (solos, etudes, ensembles) written by foremost composers for that instrument
