Percussion/Drum Lessons

When many people think of percussion they think solely of drums, but the percussion family includes a huge array of instruments. Basically, any musical instrument that is struck (either with sticks, mallets, or by hand) is a member of the percussion family. Percussion instruments include drums of all shapes and sizes, mallet instruments (pitched percussion: xylophones, vibraphones, marimbas, chimes, and bells), cymbals, drum set, and auxiliary percussion (this category includes everything used for special effect not mentioned above).

While percussion may appear to be the easiest group of instruments to play, each instrument requires a specific technique, fluent dexterity, and for drum set, a great amount of coordination. Professional percussionists, while competent on all percussion instruments, generally specialize in a specific area; an orchestral tympanist rarely plays anything other than tympani, while a rock drummer rarely plays anything other than drum set. Our percussion instructors at Pellegrino Fine Arts Academy combine a wealth of expertise with an abundance of performance experience - a combination guaranteed to help any student, regardless of age or ability level, achieve their musical goals!
