The Summit, in partnership with Pellegrino Music Center, presents Music Alive, a program to help young musicians in our local schools realize their dreams and learn the joys of playing an instrument.
So do YOU have an unloved, dusty and forgotten "gently used" musical instrument in your attic, closet or basement? There are dozens of kids who’d love the chance to learn to play it…kids whose families simply can’t afford the expense of buying their child a musical instrument.
Through Music Alive, The
Summit and Pellegrino Music will collect and
repair instruments, and see they get placed in the hands
of kids who will truly appreciate them!
WHY THE NEED FOR MUSIC ALIVE?
There are hundreds of kids who would love the chance to learn to play an instrument. However, many families can’t afford the expensive of buying their child a musical instrument, or even the nominal rental fee. Music Alive ensures all kids have the chance to discover their talents.
Throughout the State of Ohio - Music education programs have suffered with declining budgets leading to fewer instruments for the students. The Music Alive program is dedicated to turning back this trend to ensure all children have access to a quality instruments.WHY MUST OUR PUBLIC SCHOOL INCLUDE THE STUDY OF MUSIC?
We are very confident that children learn discipline from the rehearsal process, self-expression from performance and social interaction from group studies. In addition, learning a musical instrument at an early age, develops critical thinking and self discipline skills and improves a child's early cognitive development, basic math and reading abilities, self-esteem, SAT scores, spatial reasoning skills, and school attendance. Also, researchers have found that children involved with music education are more likely to graduate from high school and attend college, and are less likely to be involved with gangs and substance abuse.
WHAT INSTRUMENTS DO YOU ACCEPT FOR DONATIONS?
We currently accept any band or orchestra instrument and guitars. Pianos, organs, accordions, keyboards and drumsets are not currently being accepted for donation.
IS MY DONATED INSTRUMENT TAX-DEDUCTIBLE?
